Activity Evaluation

Activity Evaluation

After every activity I will answer these same 4 questions to show if the exercise was an effective method of getting across the point of what we were supposed to learn.

1. Prior to this activity, how would you rank yourself in knowledge about the topic. (1-No Knowledge at atll, 2-Very Little Knowledge, 3-Some knowledge, 4-A good amount of knowledge, 5-I knew all about this)

2. Following this activity, how would you rate the amount of knowledge you have on the topic (1- I don’t really know enough to talk about the topic, 2- I know enough to explain what I did, 3-I know enough to repeat what I did, 4-I know enough to teach someone else, 5- I am an expert)

3. Did the hands-on approach to this activity add to how much you were able to learn (1-Strongly Disagree, 2-Disagree, 3-No real opinion, 4-Agree, 5-Strongly Agree)

4. What types of learning strategies would you recommend to make the activity even better?

Activity 1

1. 5
2. 4
3. 5
4. I wouldn't change too much about this activity. I think the hands on really shows the students how to do this especially when the students get to inflate the balloon and hook up the picavet rig. I think making the students string up the picavet rig is really the only way this activity could have more hands on instruction. Otherwise overall very good activity.

Activity 2

1. 5
2. 4
3. 5
4. I thought this was another very valuable activity. The hands on approach for the students makes it so much easier to learn than if they were just being shown how to do everything. I think it is very important to have all the students go through the different positions of the flight crew so they know the whole process from multiple angles. It is disappointing we didn't get to fly but hopefully we will in the next few weeks.

Activity 3

1. 5
2. 4
3. 5
4. This was another very good activity. I wouldn't change anything. I liked the mix of hands on with the flying but also the lecture by Dr. Peirson on battery basics. The students getting to use all the skills they learned last week in planning and pre flight this week with the flights is good practice. I think keeping these two activities separate is a good way of review of the material.

Activity 4

1. 5
2. 4
3. 5
4. I liked how the whole class was involved in this activity the whole time and not split into groups. It gave everyone a chance to hear what others were thinking when questions were asked.

Activity 5

1. 5
2. 4
3. 5
4. I think this activity was a good change from the other imagery we have been collecting. All that imagery was collected from the same purpose of making maps, this data is for making a 3D model. That variety is good to show the students that there are many uses for the drone technology but still using them in a geographic sense.

Activity 6

1. 5
2. 5
3. 5
4. This was the first week being in the lab for the whole class period and not getting to be outside conducting field work. I liked the small demo Dr. Hupy gave at the beginning of the class to give the students a general idea of what they would be doing. Having the majority of the class period to work on our assignment was also nice. I think the students learned a lot from a good exercise.

Activity 7

1. 5
2. 5
3. 5
4.  I thought this was good exercise and I think the in class demonstration helps the students know what to do but is better than a tutorial because they have to take notes and use the notes to replicate what was done in the demo.

Activity 8

1. 4
2. 4
3. 5
4. Again with this week same as last that the in class short demo was really nice to get the students thinking but not giving them a tutorial on how to do everything makes them use the help or the internet and better learn how to do the processes taught in the lab.

Activity 9

1. 4
2. 4
3. 5
4. I thought it was good that Dr. Hupy really didn't give use too much of an introduction to the assignment. It challenged use even more than past weeks to use the help and looks things up on our own and not rely on him or his demos.
